Newborn baby clinging to life after he is shot by teenage mum’s boyfriendApril 24, 2020
A newborn baby is clinging to his life after he was shot by his teenage mum’s boyfriend.
Armani Cazares has been in intensive care since Saturday morning following the attack by 19-year-old Lance Tello Jr, police in San Antonio, Texas, police say.
The baby boy, who was born on February 25, suffered injuries to his lungs, a shattered vertebrae and brain damage due to lack of oxygen, Fox San Antonio reports.
The tot’s 18-year-old mum Daisy Delacruz said: “It’s a nightmare. My son was here and now he’s not.
“Now the doctors are telling me he’s not going to make it. That there’s no hope. That he’s practically brain dead.”
A GoFundMe appeal from the family has raised more than £6,800 ($8,500) to pay for Armani’s medical bills, the Daily Star reports.
Tello Jr, who is not Armani’s dad, is also accused of shooting his own mum and his 14-year-old sister, police said.
Daisy said she met Tello Jr when she was four months pregnant and although he wasn’t Armani’s biological dad, he acted like one to the newborn baby.
Describing how he suddenly “flipped” in the baby’s bedroom in the early hours of Saturday, after complaining about feeling stressed at work.
She told News4 : “He stared at himself in the mirror for about a minute or two.
“I then see him reach in between the mattresses and I see him pull out a gun. He has no emotion in his face, he’s just looking at me with this evil look.
“And he’s looking at my baby, and I’m telling him, ‘You’re not going to shoot my baby.’ But before I could push him away from me, the gun goes off. And then I’m deaf.
“And then I turn around and I see my son. My son is on the floor and he’s turning blue.”
She added: “I was angry at him, and then my anger just turned into sadness because I loved him. And I thought he loved me and my son.
“He just flipped. He was normal and then he just turned into someone else.”
Tello Jr is in jail with a combined bond of £402,000 ($500,000).
